A Two-Dimensional Renewal Process with Applications to Forest Fire Modelling

The one-dimensional renewal process has been extensively researched and investigated, and its importance in a variety of applications is well understood. Recently, a multi-dimensional analogue of the renewal process has been proposed by Ivanoff and Merzbach (2006). In addition, it has been suggested that the two-dimensional version of this process could be used to model the spread of forest fires under a prevailing wind. The purpose of the current talk is to discuss this two-dimensional version in both a statistical and applied setting, through the introduction of template models and applications to data sets.
